European Seminar on "Participation of Young People in Youth Information Work",
20 - 23 April 2006, Vienna

COMPENDIUM OF PROJECTS INVOLVING YOUNG PEOPLE DIRECTLY IN DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF YOUTH INFORMATION WORK
Introduction

On the basis of an initiative proposed by the Austrian youth information network, the three European organisations (ERYICA, Eurodesk and EYCA) decided to organise together a European Seminar on "Participation of Young People in Matters in Youth Information Work" in Vienna on 20-23 April 2006. This seminar constitutes a further step in their co-operation, and is designed to contribute to the implementation of the European Union "common objectives" for youth information. Organised in the framework of the Austrian Presidency of the European Union, the seminar has been supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Social Security, Generations and Consumer Protection; it has also received funding from the Council of Europe and the European Commission.

With a view to collecting examples of practice and methods in this field from different countries, the Preparatory Group invited all the national partners of the three European organisations to provide information about projects which involved young people directly in an aspect of youth information work, at the local, regional, national or European levels. This was done on the basis of a "description form" sent to all ERYICA, Eurodesk and EYCA partners in January 2006. There was a very good response to this invitation, which confirmed the Preparatory Group in its decision to devote a large part of the seminar programme to the presentation of selected projects and to a sharing of experience and methods.

In the end, a total of 61 projects have been received, more than half of them from the "local" level, and including 3 from the European level (being organised by one of the three "organisers" of the seminar, with the involvement of all or part of its membership). The data collected on each of these projects will enable other organisations or persons to take contact with the organisers of a project that they find interesting.

A brief description of each of these initiatives or projects forms the content of this Compendium of Projects, which was sent to all of the participants in the in advance of the seminar.
